Editorial coordinator<\/h4>\n

We are an independent non-profit newsroom that develops investigative journalism \u2013 a public interest task that promotes free, capable media and open, accountable, just democracy.<\/p>\n

We do so via:<\/p>\n

Investigations:<\/b> Developing best practice by doing stories that are accurate and fair, advance methods and standards, expose wrongdoing and empower people to hold power to account.<\/p>\n

Investigations support:<\/b> Helping others do it too via editorial collaboration and training.<\/p>\n

Advocacy:<\/b> Campaigning, exercising laws and litigating to help secure the information rights \u2013 access to information and media freedoms \u2013 that are the lifeblood of our field.<\/p>\n

We are based in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town and publish via www.amabhungane.org<\/span><\/a> and a range of publication partners.<\/p>\n

We are seeking to appoint an editorial coordinator – who will lead, manage, and have impact across amaB\u2019s range of activities – working closely with the managing partner and the editorial team, as well as with coordinators in the operating, digital, and advocacy portfolios.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

This is a management role.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Purpose: <\/b>Provide editorial and organisational leadership and mentorship \u2022\u00a0 <\/span>Support the managing partner on editorial functions \u2022 Support the managing partner and operating coordinator on organisational sustainability \u2022 Complement the activities within the advocacy and digital portfolios \u2022 Produce stories too \u2022 As a management role, oversight of all amaB\u2019s areas of work and functions, including investigations support.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Key deliverables: <\/b>Triage (story selection), story development\/management and forensic editing \u2013 in collaboration with the managing partner\u00a0 <\/span>\u2022 Produce investigative stories too \u2022 Provide input into advocacy, digital and operating portfolios \u2022 Assist with overall managerial oversight of the organisation, including investigations support, as part of the management team \u2022\u00a0 <\/span>Assist the managing partner and operating coordinator where necessary with fundraising, financial administration and compliance.<\/p>\n

Applicants must: <\/b>Proven track record in investigative journalism, editing and newsroom management \u2022 Be a team player and mentor \u2022 Have a fair grasp of organisational administration, including compliance and financial administration \u2022\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The successful applicant will ideally be based in Johannesburg and report to the managing partner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
